Austin has a kite festival every year. We tried to go last year, but it was so nuts, we literally turned the car around and went back to our neighborhood park to fly our kites.
This year, we made a plan.
First, Taco Deli. We were going to need our strength to battle that crowd and make the 1.2 mile walk from there to Zilker park. (It also happens that Taco Deli has the most ah-mazing tacos on the whole freaking planet, and frankly, any excuse will do.)
A couple pics...
It was a spectacularly perfect day. 66 degrees. Just crowded enough to be festive but not suffocating.
And no one even seemed to care that there wasn't quite enough wind to keep most of the kites up.

Oh, man, wish we were there to sail some kites with you! Makes me think of all the times we spent flying kites in the parents park a billion years ago. The kids were just telling me that we need to buy us some kites because it's March and that means kite flying month.
